phantom_leo said:I know I've been saying a lot of games I have been playing lately are good, but I just started playing Fez, and...
...really, I don't want to like it... The Creator of the game is an utter douchebag, who often rags on Gamers and the Japanese game industry...
...there are some potential game-save corrupting bugs which the above-mentioned douchebag won't fix probably because it would cost him too much...
...knowing me that should be more than enough to turn me off of the game forever, but...
...the game is FUCKIN' AWESOME!! It's hard to explain past the unique 2D to 3D platforming it utilizes to GREAT effect, suffice to say: Secrets abound! More secrets than a Mario game. Adventure elements that call to mind Zelda puzzles. Some of the things this game makes you do are unbelievable, but when you solve its various Puzzles... Oh! The --SWEET-- satisfaction! Using controller inputs in a unique way, Vibration hints to solve riddles, inventing its own language, number system and symbols... I don't want to say anything, as not to spoil anything, but --MY GOD-- this is a game EVERYONE should play! It seems utterly simple at first but it just keeps getting deeper and deeper and deeper...
Quite simply, it's one of the MOST BRILLIANT games I've ever played in my entire life!
It's been announced that it's coming to other systems other than 360 sometime in the near future, and, really, if Nintendo is smart they'll get this on the U... its brilliance rivals some of their most brilliant moments **yes, it's THAT good!** ...and it would fit with Nintendo Gamers so much more than the average 360 player! Regardless if you get it now or wait to see if it comes to the U... PLAY IT! SERIOUSLY!
travo said:Damn, youve sold me on this. I need something for my weekend job...how much?
phantom_leo said:It was 800 Points when it first came out. Now that I bought it, I can't look up the price again. Well worth it at 800, even better if less!
travo said:I might DL tomorrow. I'm too tired to even game tonight...12 hour day.
phantom_leo said:Ugh. Sorry you had such a long day. Hope your Dad is well, too... I would have reponded to you sooner, but...
...the game is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO frickin' addicting! I went on the 360 to check to see if I could find the price, didn't shut the system off after doing so, said to myself "I'll just find another cube or two" and 35 minutes later...
phantom_leo said:This is the kind of game whole Topics could be devoted to, solely for the various, unique, incredible, unbelievable puzzles alone! Should TOTALLY, ABSOLUTELY be the subject of a Gamer's Club here! Without saying too much, I'm a good way thru, but still have a looooong way to go to finish!
Dvader said:I have it unplayed on the xbox
phantom_leo said:Maybe this will make you want to play it more, maybe this will turn you off. Here's one website reviewer's notes while playing the game:
Again, without saying anything, he's kinda on the right track and also mostly wrong. Once you "get" it, game is AMAZING!
travo said:Fez download get! I'll have impressions later.
phantom_leo said:Any FEZ impressions yet Travo?
Dvader said:Time to pick my next game. I shall play... FEZ.
phantom_leo said:AWESOME!! Travo just got it too! You two can compare notes! If you need any hints, let me know!
In truth, you'll probably run thru the main game by tomorrow, most likely, but you'll see just how deep it is too...
...to 100% this one... that might take a while!
phantom_leo said:Both of you, check this out, by the way...
...but don't read too much! Don't want to spoil anything!
travo said:M playing now and enjoy it very much. You cans check out my percentages on the leader boards.
travo said:Fez is pretty cool. I love how the puzzles seamlessly weave 3D and 2D gameplay. So far the puzzles aren't too tricky, though there is one that has me completely stumped. I should possibly finish this during my weekend at work...unless I get a hankering to play a ton of MGS3.
phantom_leo said:PM me if you get REALLY stumped. I have a few tips I could give you --WITHOUT-- spoiling anything!
Dvader said:I am in love with Fez, wow what a game! It is pure exploration, pure puzzle and platforming bliss. The game is simply open to you to explore and figure out on your own like the games of old. Its enchanting in its own way, I cant wait to see where I end up next. Oh and the music is so good.
I cant believe there are people who play video games for a living that think Journey is better than Fez, mind boggeling.
travo said:There's a reason I haven't played Fez today. It freezes when I try to load my continue. I guess I'll have to delete and redownload it. . Hopefully, it'll still accept my save and I won't have to start again.
Dvader said:I see what Foolz was saying, the game does feel unstable.
Dvader said:So I accidentally solved a major puzzle in Fez, I feel like I cheated. Some place where a ghost says afterlife, outspace. I got angry so I just rotated the level a bunch of times in random directions and tada I got an anticube. What did I do???
Game is absolutely amazing. I now see what the maps are for but I still think I am missing something.
Dvader said:Ah ha! I found a cypher. This game is so amazing.
And I have no clue what to do...
Dvader said:OMG this new area in Fez. Nintendo love.
travo said:I didn't redownload just started again. I took a break, then started back up playing and it froze again. . This...this sucks. I will delete it and try again one more time . If it doesn't work, I'm just gonna have to quit it until a patch comes out or it comes on PSN.
travo said:Dvader said:OMG this new area in Fez. Nintendo love.
Damn you, for getting to enjoy the game more than me.
Dvader said:Try to get back in, should be easier the second time.
travo said:I started over again and the same thing happened. I'm at work, so I'm gonna wait till I get home and redownload it. I did find an article that discussed the save issue with older 360 models. They said Polytron was aware of these problems, but the article was from April, 2012. :? I did email Polytron's customer support, so lets see what they have to say.
phantom_leo said:Did the game prompt you to Download a patch when you first installed it?
How is it freezing? What's happening when it does freeze? System locks up? Goes back to your Xbox Game Collection screen?
Dvader said:I have seen a lot of weird endings in my day but Fez might just take the cake. Now to get down to serious puzzle solving.
GS gave Fez an 8. They are such a holes.
travo said:phantom_leo said:Did the game prompt you to Download a patch when you first installed it?

I press continue and the camera zooms through space with the yellow cube in the bottom right corner spinning. All of a sudden, everything stops, the stars stop moving and the cube stops rotating. I've waited at least five minutes one time to see if it would actually load and nothing. I can't bring up the Xbox menu. The only I can do is manually power it off.
I deleted my game and will download it again tonight when i get home (date night) and see what happens. I certainly don't remember a patch but it did take a while for it to DL.
Dvader said:WOAH THIS GAME IS CRAZY AWESOME.
Dvader said:It just happened to me, exactly as Travo said but I fixed it. Here you go travo http://polytroncorporation.com/fez-issues
Do that, clear the cache, works fine.
travo said:Sweet! Thanks! I was getting pretty soured on the whole experience.
phantom_leo said:It's strange, I played thru the entire game and had only one lock-up. I was in that Tetris Puzzle room, I was arranging the pieces, one was magnetically drawn to another. When the pieces connected, the game froze momentarily and I was booted back to my 360 Game Collection screen. Other than that, nada!
Dvader said:I already blew passed Leo's complete percentage.
travo said:Vader, I'm sure you recognized the poster in Fez's room at the very beginning, right?
phantom_leo said:Dvader said:I already blew passed Leo's complete percentage.
I may have reached the ending, but I am far from done with the game! Wanted to play something else. Something else was Rayman. Rayman's done. Maybe I'll go back to Fez for a little while tonight!
phantom_leo said:travo said:Vader, I'm sure you recognized the poster in Fez's room at the very beginning, right?I am ashamed to admit I totally, completely and utterly missed that until I started new game + 45 minutes ago!
phantom_leo said:Having started new game plus, I will also admit it took me 45 minutes to get one cube...
ONE. CUBE!
Now I am translating everything, and looking at everything a bit more "closely" and this will take me ffffoooorrrreeeevvvveeeerrrr...
Now I get it! This was Vader's plan all along. He wanted to distract me from starting a new game tonight to throw off my game beating streak! Well, now I'm on to you mister! Fez will have to wait! On to...
...to...
...something else!
phantom_leo said:If you've started new game plus, I was half expecting to see "Deal with it" at the end of that one particular sequence!
If you haven't started it yet, you'll know exactly what I mean once you do!
Dvader said:Of course I knew the poster. Leo is the translation stuff something you can pick out from the game or is it something I should look up online.
travo said:Oh man, the graveyard is so good. I can't stop playing this.
phantom_leo said:Regarding the letters:
Not really too much of a spoiler, but just in case someone doesn't want to know...
...
The translation stuff is tough. Did you get the Printing Cube yet? Using that, you can see the six different sets of letters. Using that as a guide you can decipher most of the common letters thru conversations later in the game. I got most of them, but then couldn't read my own handwriting after a point. There's a guide online which has them all clearly written, if you want me to direct you to it.
phantom_leo said:You two have some way to back up your saves, right? Would be a shame to do so much and lose it! Not that I've had any trouble, but it's a smart thing to do with this game!
Dvader said:I have to do what with the cube?
travo said:Everyone will be watching the Super Bowl and I'll be at work. Oh we'll, it'll be a Fez and MGS3 gaming day for me.
travo said:I'm at work playing Fez. Screw the Super Bowl!
phantom_leo said:Vader
got me to play so I don't beat any more games right nowencouraged me to play more and I saw two worlds I did not see previously:Gameboy World
Virtual Boy World
Is this what you meant by the Nintendo Love comment a few days ago? At the time I had no idea what you were referring to. I didn't see any Nintendo references that stood out that I could think of. Like I said before, I even missed the Zelda reference in Gomez' room!
Isn't it strange a developer that so outwardly dislikes Japanese games now has so many homages to Nintendo in his game? What's that all about?
travo said:Well, there's that, plus the platforms that move on rails and the bouncy mushrooms. BTW, weren't those tuning forks awesome?
phantom_leo said:Yeah. Absolutely awesome! VERY inventive game. The only thing I didn't like was the...

...QR Code Puzzles. I don't have anything to read them with and it forced me to cheat a little bit.
travo said:. Didn't know about those!
Here's a hint I gave to Vader over Live regarding the number system in the game:
SPOILERS!
SPOILERS!
" 1 - 4 are one line only. 1 begins at 12's. All the rest are comprised of the first four by adding the others to themselves. "
Or something like that! Start with the Number System Cube, figure out which one is "1" and go from there! One other quick hint. This one is a bigger Spoiler because it kind of explains the first:
Because there's more than one way to add 1 thru 4 to get the rest of the numbers, [1 + 4 --or-- 2 + 3] for example, some numbers have more than one Symbol, but once you figure out the base numbers, you'll be able to read the variations pretty easily!
I see where the five years of development went into... The ending! Lol
I am so happy I got to finish.
So. You got all 400%?
Sorry, Son, you're FAR from done!
Winning the game once opens New Game + and without spoiling anything, the game gives you the ability to see things from --YET ANOTHER-- Perspective which leads to the ability to solve even more Puzzles!

Besides all that:
Something tells me there's more than just 2D and 3D. I think once you solve the game again, the FOURTH DIMENSION is introduced!
...and truth be told, Phil Fish seems --JUST-- like the kind of guy to --USE-- a Gif like that!
He may be a douche, but, MAN, can he make a GREAT GAME!
I am asking this, assuming you didn't just run thru the game doing the bare minimum to win, hoping I'm not going to spoil anything in asking... What was your Cube Count at the End? How many of each kind? Do you recall? I can very easily see some people going thru the game only getting the Golden Cubes and almost entirely missing the fact that there are Anti-Cubes!

Ten anticubes, twenty golden cubes, seven maps, and par....er...artifact.
DAMN YOU VADER ! ! !
A whole day now with NO PROGRESS in any other games other than one I "Beat" already! This was your plan all along, wasn't it?!
I have 31 Golden Cubes and like 5 fragments of the last one and I CAN'T FIND THE LAST FEW ! ! !
Sure I've made ridiculous progress with the Anti-Cubes, but...
GRRRAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH ! ! !
